2012 Lions Bay Banners

Congratulations to Lions Bay artists Robin Buriak (left banner) and Lorraine Surcouf (right banner) for their winning submissions.

This year’s theme is Native Plants and Flowers. Funding for the banners is provided through the Village of Lions Bay and Lions Bay Arts Council manages the selection process and production of the banners.

The judges, Councillor Ron McLaughlin, Arts Council President, Ute Philips, Rose Dudley (Garden Committee leader), Mary Miles (Native Plant Garden leader and Artist) and Public Art & Design Chair, Ruth Simons picked the winning Arbutus and Dogwood from the 11 submissions. Thank you to all the artists that provided lovely interpretations of our local plants and flowers.

The banners will be displayed around the village this spring and a new banner location is being added at the entrance to central Lions Bay above the wooden Lions Bay sign.

Coincidently, Lorraine and Robin both studied at the Ontario College of Art and found their way west to Whistler and eventually Lions Bay. Along their individual paths they have spent their lives sharing their knowledge with children through teaching and workshops.

More information about our artists can be found on www.lionsbayartscouncil.org and www.facebook.com/Lionsbayartscouncil.
