Architecture

Architecture as a professional practice, governed by legislation, is situated in a wide cultural, social, economic and political space and is experienced by everyone in all aspects of their everyday lives.

It has been a designated artform in Ireland since the first Arts Act in 1951 and this gives the Arts Council a unique statutory responsibility for its development as an artform.

How we develop architecture

Our architecture policy is focused on the work of the living architect as artist and on building a greater appreciation and understanding of architecture as an artform.

We develop architecture culture in Ireland through our funding of the creative practice of architects and through our investment in those organisations that engage the public with architecture and provide creative development opportunities and platforms for architects to present, discuss and preserve their work.

Partnerships and schemes

Ireland at Venice

Through our partnership with Culture Ireland, we support Ireland’s representation at the world’s leading architecture event, the International Architecture Exhibition at Venice, La Biennale di Venezia. Attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors, this event offers Irish architects a unique chance to connect with international architects, curators and collaborators and take part in international debate and forecasting.
